Mention only once but in two parallel passages in the Bible, Rezeph was one of the towns capture, and possibly destroyed, by the Assyrian king Sennercherib and mentioned by him in the letter he sent to King Hezekiah as a warning that a similar fate would befall Jerusalem if the latter did not submit to him (2 Ki 19:12//Isa 37:12). The town, identified with modern Resafa, Syria, was an important caravan centre on the route from Hamath to the Euphrates.
