Salvation history or History of Salvation—or Heilsgeschichte (German) in older works of biblical theology—refers to the history of God's intervention on behalf of His people to deliver or to save them. This assumes that revelation does not consist only in the words of Scriptures; revelation takes place also when God acts in history, and especially in the incarnation and sacrificial death of his Son on the cross, which may be seen as the climax of salvation history.
Salvation history may be understood as synonymous with "history of redemption" (Latin: historia salutis), and "biblical theology" may be said to be the attempt to understand and clarify this history.
