The book of Samuel relates the history of ancient Israel from the last days of the judges until the last days of David's reign. In is placed in the nineth and ten place in the order of the books of Old Testament, both Hebrew and English (A Simple Overview of Every Book of the Old Testament). While we speak of Samuel as two seperate books, they are in fact a single unitary work. It is, however, a very long work and could not be fitted onto a single scroll (such a scroll would have been too heavy and cumbersome to be useful). As a result the work was recorded onto two scrolls: 1 Sam would, therefore, have been "first scroll of the book of Samuel" and 2 Sam the "second scroll." When the work was converted into book form (what is called the "codex") it became two books; hence the convention of First Book and Second Book of Samuel.
ALBERITH intends to have a commentary written on both books. Until then we hope these resources helps.
