James Hudson Taylor
戴德生 dài dé shēng

b. 1832; d. 1905.

Missionary to China, and Founder of the China Inland Mission (CIM, later renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship, OMF), whose work set the model for many other missionary enterprises.

Hudson Taylor was not the first Christian missionary to China—the Nestorian Christians had beaten him by more than a thousand years—but the foundations he set should probably be considered the firmest, and the mission he founded in 1865 remains a respectable international ministry today.
