Te Deum

The name of an early Christian hymn written in Latin that played a central place in the worship of the Western Church. The name Te Deum, or Te Deum Laudamus, comes from the first line of the hymn, which means "We praise Thee, O God."

It is now generally recognized to have been composed about 400 AD by Niceta, Bishop of Remesiana (in the Balkans).

It is sometimes used as a simple noun meaning 'praise of God.'
