Tel Dan

A major archaeological site in Upper Galilee, just a few miles from the sources of the River Jordan, identified as ancient Dan of the Old Testament. Excavations at the site began in 1966 under the directions of Avraham Biran, and have continued since.

Perhaps the most significant of the findings at Tel Dan is the fragments of a stele that turns out to be the earliest extra-biblical reference to King David. Click here to open a more detailed account of the fragments as well as the amazing story of the initial discovery of the first fragment.
