Mesopotamia

Literally "between the rivers," Mesopotamia is the name given to the lands stradling the two great rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates. This land today is part of the territory of, largely of Iraq, west and south Iran, and northern Syria. In ancient times this land, or various parts of it, and at different times, was occupied by the Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Persians.
