Preposition, dative.
This preposition serves to link the group of people identified in the preceding clause with those described in the clasue following, linking the Corinthian Christians with the larger body of the people of God everywhere.
There is, however, a question of its specific function. Does this link mean that the letter is addressed to both the Corinthians and them? This seems strange since the letter seems to be so specifically tailored to the circumstances in the church in Corinth rather than a general pastoral encyclical.
