Christos, Christ, Messiah, Anointed One.
[GEL-80 -Mounce]
The statistics is interesting. One expects the Gospels to be epicenter of the word's occurrence, yet the four Gospels together only take up 10% of the 528x the word (in its various forms) occurs in the NT. It occurs only 24x in Acts. Paul uses the term most often, 382x, with the greatest concentration in 1 Cor (on the average, 1 out of 8 verses), followed by Rom (1/7) and 2 Cor (1/6). In sharp contrast, it occurs only once in every 17.6 verses in the remaining non-Pauline literature. Despite its christocentric emphasis, Heb has less than 1x per chapter (12x in toto).
